Payment giant PayPal has redesigned its checkout page to offer a native and seamless checkout experience.
It would seem PayPal is going back to its roots by streamlining their payment checkout experience. PayPal recently was focused on POS solutions with updating its mobile application for in-store purchases and presenting its new in-store merchant notification service called Beacon.
In the past, the “Pay with PayPal” button would redirect the customer to PayPal’s website to complete the checkout. Now the new checkout process, dubbed “in-context checkout", is an integrated native experience on the merchant’s website and includes PayPal login capabilities, shipping and billing address editing, and the ability to choose and switch between payment methods. All these options are made available through an iFrame popup on the merchant’s site.
PayPal has begun to offer a similar solution for mobile applications with its recently released mobile SDK. In order to create a consolidated user experience on PCs, smartphones, and tablets, PayPal will be releasing a single SDK and API to supporting merchants. The SDK and API are meant to simplify integration, instead of continuously adding on added-valued-services from PayPal supporting platforms like Braintree, Magento, and eBay.
The new PayPal checkout experience is currently being released to select merchant partners. PayPal plans to offer the new service to all its merchants in the first half of 2014.
