Newly hired PayPal Director of Strategy Rakesh "Rocky" Agrawal was relieved of his duties recently after he took to micro-blogging social network Twitter to insult some of his fellow employees.
The tweets began yesterday at 01:00 during a jazz festival which was held in New Orleans. Agrawal lashed out at his fellow colleagues calling PayPal's vice president of global communications Christina Smedley a "useless middle manager". He lashed out further with more harsh language towards Smedley. Due to the nature of the tweets we have refrained from posting them in this article. A full set of the now deleted tweets can be viewed here.
This is not the first time Agrawal has spoken so explicitly towards the payment giant and prior to his employment with the firm he wrote an article for VentureBeat explaining his thoughts and feelings on PayPal’s point-of-sale solutions.
The quality and language of Agrawal’s tweets deteriorated throught the evening and consisted of check-ins throughout the festival littered with “recommendations” for his employers on who should be let go from the company. Agrawal’s tweets seem to be autocorrected and make little sense, demonstrating his mental state when posted. He later tweeted on the cumbersome interface and layout of the Samsung Galaxy S5 to explain his mainly non-sensible posts. Samsung officially partnered with PayPal to offer Ecommerce solutions for its new fingerprint scanner and wearable devices.
Examples of the tweets sent out by Agrawal: -“Done working for the weekend. Jazz fest time!” -“Duck you Smedley you useless middle. manager.” -“People who should be fired from PayPal Don Christmas a pool a kick.” -“The twitter interface on android and gs5 is shockingly different from iPhone.”
Agrawal took to posting an apology early that morning.
“My Sincere apologies to @davidmarcus @stan_chudnovsky you guys are the two smartest guys I know. And I know brilliant people.” Said his morning after tweet.
PayPal took the matter seriously and shortly after the outburst on the social network decided to relieve Agrawal of his duties with the firm. They posted a tweet from PayPal’s official Twitter account to confirm the decision.
“Rakesh Agrawal is no longer with the company. Treat everyone with respect. No excuses. PayPal has zero tolerance.” Said PayPal’s official tweet.
