PR: Heidelpay, First Internet Payment Provider certified as a payment institution by BaFin

Heidelberger Payment GmbH, briefly heidelpay (www.heidelpay.de), is the one and only Internet Payment Service Provider who received the status of a payment institution from the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin).

This enables heidelpay to open escrow accounts for online merchants Europe-wide. The huge advantage of transaction processing via escrow accounts is that your money is absolutely secure even in the event of non-payment whether in your home country or abroad. Due to security reasons concerning escrow accounts, many large online merchants didn’t cooperate with bank independent payment institutions. This might change with the BaFin certification of heidelpay as a payment institution. One advantage of a bank independent payment institute is that it can set up escrow accounts for online merchants even abroad with any banks. In this way heidelpay becomes the one and only contact person. As a payment institution heidelpay does not only process the transactions – just like conventional internet service providers – but bundles up the international achieved sales at one point and pays the merchant off.

All cash flows are running via one payment institution in an uncomplicated and secure way: heidelpay. In this way many large online merchants with existing international activities profit from this as well as smaller online merchants who are willing to take a step towards Europe but spared the efforts until now.

Furthermore heidelpay is the only independent Internet Payment Service Provider to become a giropay acquirer as a BaFin certified payment institute. As a giropay acquirer heidelpay has the permission to issue acceptance agreements directly to the e-commerce merchants – this is the qualification for cashless payment transactions. Thus it is not necessary for online merchants to conclude a special agreement with their house banks. They receive their permission for the processing of transactions directly from heidelpay. Only since the revision of the Payment Service Directive (PSD) in autumn 2009, BaFin is allowed to certify bank independent Online Payment Service Providers, such as heidelpay, as a payment institution. From the view of heidelpay the own reputation has been cemented in a special way by the BaFin certification. „The fact that we are the one and only German Internet Payment Service Provider and a licensed payment institution as well will strengthen our position on a long term-basis”, says Mirko Hüllemann, CEO of heidelpay. “Many online merchants will carefully have to consider if they cooperate any longer with a payment provider which is, unlike us, not certified by BaFin and furthermore does not guaranty the security and easiness of escrow accounts”.
