UK research predicts tablets to outperform smartphones this year

We just saw the tablets outperform smartphones on Black Friday. It seems that the UK is no different, and with Mega Monday already here, we expect to see tablets have a more prominent role in Mcommerce transactions.

Independent market research firm, eMarketer, compiled its projections on mobile use for 2013 in the UK. According to eMarketer, mobile transactions are to double this year, with smartphones and tablets bringing in a combined £8.17 billion in sales, amounting to 18% of all Ecommerce sales in the UK. eMarketer also broke down those numbers, and as we saw in the US on Black Friday, tablets will have more transactions placed than smartphones. The amount of tablet transactions is projected to triple itself, resulting in £4.74 billion in sales, and 10.4% of total Ecommerce sales.

The rise in tablet use is shown prominently with it surpassing smartphones, 58% to 42%, proving it to be the preferred method to place mobile transactions.

eMarketer also provided numbers showing an estimated 20 million UK residents who will use a tablet when placing a transaction this year, with that number doubling by 2015, and even tripling by 2017.

Overall Ecommerce sales are predicted to reach £45.4 billion this year, with double-digit growth expected in the coming years.
