United Bank for Africa cards now supported on PayPal

The United Bank for Africa (UBA) recently announced its debit and prepaid cards will be supported on eBay Inc.’s owned PayPal payment platform.

As one of the most popular and used payment methods, PayPal is offered as the payment option of choice on eBay's marketplace and is also supported by a wide array of small, medium, and enterprise sized businesses.

The addition of UBA card support on the payment platform will open the emerging African market to merchants and online retailers located outside of Africa. PayPal’s ability to transfer funds between users should also prove successful given the popularity of mobile payment and remittance in Africa with solutions like M-Pesa offering payment and money transfer possibilities to its under-banked populous.

“UBA Cards on Paypal offer unrivalled convenience for our Cardholders to shop online” Stated Head of e-banking Division at UBA, Dr. Yinka Adedeji.

According to UBA’s announcement, customer sign-up is identical to that of other countries. Customers need open an account with PayPal and fill out a form with the payment details. Once approved, UBA cardholders can simply choose to pay with PayPal anywhere it is accepted.

The news of PayPal support coincides with a summer campaign now being run by UBA, informing cardholders that they can use their cards anywhere in the world. The bank previously announced all its UBA MasterCard and Visa branded cards can be used in over 200 countries, at both POS terminals and ATMs.
