US authorities seizes additional $28 million in Bitcoins from Silk Road founder

U.S. authorities, in continuation of their investigation of The Silk Road seizure, have confiscated an additional $28 Million worth of Bitcoins.

On October 1st, we reported the FBI seizure of the dark web’s leading marketplace, The Silk Road. During the seizure, the authorities confiscated $3.6 Million worth of Bitcoins. In continuing their investigation, the US authorities have confiscated from Ross William Ulbricht, also known by his online alias as "Dread Pirate Roberts”, the amount of 144,336 BTC, on computers and hard drives that were found in his home. The recent confiscation, with the amount originally seized, brings the total close to $33 Million dollars in Bitcoins, now in the hands of the authorities.

Court documents indicate that an amount close to $1.2 Billion worth in the cryptocurrency has exchanged hands since The Silk Road began operations back in 2011.

Currently neither Ulbricht, nor his defense has commented on the recent developments of the case.

We expect to hear more about The Silk Road seizure, as it develops.
