AliExpress integrates the Yandex.Money payment platform to make shopping online even easier for Russian consumers.
Yandex.Money, the largest online payment service in Russia, and AliExpress, a retail marketplace for worldwide consumers, today announced that Yandex.Money will be offered as a payment option on the AliExpress marketplace. Now Russian consumers shopping on AliExpress will be able to pay commission free using their Yandex.Money e-wallets. Additionally, thanks to Yandex.Money’s integrated payment solution, shoppers will soon have the option of paying for goods from the balance on their mobile phones or in cash at 170,000 locations including mobile retailers and Sberbank terminals.
According to official statistics, in 2013 more than 20 million packages from AliExpress sellers were sent to Russian shoppers, averaging 60,000 packages a day. Research conducted jointly by Yandex and GfK revealed that the Chinese platform is the second most popular foreign online store in Russia. 14% of Russian users that have shopped at overseas online stores in the past 12 months expressed a preference for AliExpress. That is less than the category’s leader eBay (21% of users), but more than Amazon (10% of users).
The partnership between Yandex.Money and AliExpress will kick off with a huge sale, during which Yandex.Money users will be able to purchase goods from the online marketplace at exclusive discounts of 15 to 50%. The special offer will apply to over 4,000 goods from the most in-demand categories—clothing, health and beauty, and mobile and consumer electronics. The sale will take place from July 7 to 9 and will only apply to orders paid for with Yandex.Money e-wallets.
“Every day AliExpress receives tens of thousands of orders from Russia,” said Dmitry Danilenko, CCO at Yandex.Money. “Cross-border e-commerce is growing at an impressive rate: in the last year market volumes have doubled in Russia. The start of AliExpress accepting Payments through Yandex.Money is a momentous event for both parties and will be of great benefit to our customers.” “Russia is among the top three markets where our users are located and we are happy to introduce a new payment option that many of our Russian users are familiar with,” says Denis Makkaveev, Business Development Executive, AliExpress Russia. “With the addition of Yandex.Money’s payment solution, we are continuing our mission to improve the user experience and make shopping on AliExpress simpler, easier and more enjoyable for our users in Russia.”
