While the Forex and CFDs industry has been actively using sports sponsorships as an active way to design marketing strategies, the cryptocurrency space is just starting to explore such opportunities.
Crypto-focused social trading brokerage eToro just announced a deal that might trigger a wave of similar sponsorship agreements amongst cryptocurrency trading providers. The firm on-boarded professional tennis player Gaël Monfils as the brand’s global ambassador.
With its recent expansion in the US and its plans for a subsidiary in Gibraltar, eToro is focusing on a global audience, and the choice of Monfils is a solid fit for the company. The French tennis player is well known amongst fans for playing an extravagant style. His career high ranking in the ATP World Tour was 6th in November 2016.
TV Advert on Eurosport
Clients of eToro will be able to follow Monfils through his public investor profile, where they can see his investment strategies in real-time, from Cryptocurrencies to equities. The brokerage is also launching a TV ad campaign on Eurosport, which is a pan-European television network.
Ads on a network which is available in 54 countries, in 20 different languages, targeting a crowd which is typically oriented towards betting on sports events open the doors for eToro to a very wide audience. After raising significant funding last year, the firm continues its global expansion efforts.
Commenting on the deal, Monfils stated: “Ever since I came across eToro through a family member, I was instantly drawn to it because it’s easy to use, has a powerful community and allows me to invest in cryptocurrencies safely.”
“I see a long-term future for digital currencies. They are often misunderstood among the wider public, but just like with any other investment, the key is to educate yourself and understand the risk,” the tennis player elaborated.
Grand Slam Sponsorships
eToro will be sponsoring Monfils throughout the biggest upcoming ATP Grand Slam tournaments, including Roland Garros, Wimbledon and US Open. He will also star in an eToro TV advert, set to air for the first time today on Eurosport.
“Gaël is a perfect ambassador for eToro – not only is he passionate about finance and markets, he shows that being an investor and securing your own financial future should not be defined by your background,” commented the CEO of eToro Yoni Assia.
