A survey by JadoPAdo indicates that 98% of UAE residents have made at least one internet purchase in the past year.
Research data shows that the UAE is undoubtedly in the game when it comes to e-retail; with an existing and growing appetite for online consumption. A recently published infographic offers a visual representation of the public’s participation numbers, trends and expectations when it comes to e-commerce, including the responses of 2 052 people who form the study’s sample group.
Some interesting findings are:
*Men are bigger online buyers than women, with married people doing more shopping than those who are single or in relationships and the target ages for e-commerce are greatest at 26-35 years.
*Most people access the internet from home, with school coming in second and an incredible 79% say that they access the internet using mobile phones.
*The top four most common purchases are (in order): electronics and IT, travel and events tickets, software and apps and hotel bookings, with 47.3% of the sample having made 6 or more purchases online (the biggest portion) and 2% having never purchased online before (the smallest portion).
*Most people shop online between 4pm and 12am and most pay using credit cards or COD, with the lowest number for payment attributed to wire transfers and prepaid cards.
*50% say that 1-3 days delivery is acceptable, 15.4% are willing to wait up to a week, 22.8% want their goods within 14 hours and the remaining minority has delivery expectations of less than 12 hours from time of purchase.
*Pricing and customer service are seen to be the most important considerations when it comes to online shopping and most valid reasons not to make Payments over the internet are security concerns and the inability to touch or test items before buying.
*80.7% of the sample say that they plan to continue buying goods and services online.
