Known for its popular MetaTrader 4 platform, the MetaTrader brand is a popular one for MetaQuotes. However, despite the MetaTrader name being synonymous with its trading platforms, one item which has eluded MetaQuotes until recently was the metatrader.com domain.
Acquired in 2003 by a third party, the metatrader.com domain had been eluded by MetaQuotes despite the popularity of its platform. As a result, in 2012, MetaQuotes filed a case with the World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO) Mediation and Arbitration Center to receive the domain as they had trademarked the Metatrader name. The case though was ruled against MetaQuotes as the firm hadn’t filed a trademark for Metatrader until 2005, two years after the Acquisition of the domain. In addition, the WIPO panel cited MetaQuotes' lack of filing a complaint until nine years after the domain was registered.
MetaQuotes has since been successful in acquiring the domain, with metatrader.com now redirecting to the firm’s metatrader5.com URL. According to domain registration data, the ownership update was made in October, with the site now registered to MetaQuotes' CEO and Founder, Renat Fatkhullin.
In inquiries with MetaQuotes about a purchase price and the seller, Finance Magnates reached out to MetaQuotes, but as of publishing time they have yet to respond.
