Earlier today I published that Morgan Stanley's Matrix platform may no longer be available however Morgan Stanley have contacted me to assure me that this is not the case. What they are saying is that just the Marketing website was taken down as they are updating it to include new features and products. The platform itself is very much alive and they are reporting a five fold increase in volumes during the last 12 months. I'm glad to hear that.
Morgan Stanley's Matrix is an ambitious project which should have taken the financial platforms and information delivery to the next stage. Built jointly with Adobe the Matrix utilized much of its advanced technology in order to create a Rich Internet Application (RIA). The look and feel was exceptional, if to judge by the demo site which now doesn't seem to function. https://www.morganstanley.com/matrixinfo/ - was open to everyone and showed a beautiful flash demo of the platform and its rich features such as trading, research, data mining and human filtered content.
Those interested can see the Matrix's webcast recording here.
At the time, the access was available only to Morgan Stanley's institutional clients therefore throughly reviewing the platform wasn't possible. It seems that less than a year after it was launched the project is undergoing some fundamental changes and therefore the demonstration site was taken down. This may, or may not, be related to the Matrix founder's Hishaam Mufti-Bey (Caramanli) leaving to join UBS in order to lead the development of a similar product.
This platform has a stunning look and feel which I hope will be later on emulated by most competitors and I'm hoping the new promised features will be in line with this design.
