State Street Corporation has appointed financial services veteran, Alex Lawton, as its newest Senior Managing Director and Head of Securities Finance for the group’s Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) business, according to a State Street statement.

In his new role as the senior managing director and EMEA head, Mr. Lawton will be tasked with developing State Street Global’s securities finance business across the region. He will be reporting directly to Rajen Shah, Head of State Street Global Markets for EMEA and Lou Maiuri, Global Head of Securities Finance.

Mr. Lawton will be succeeding Don D’Eramo, who is poised to relocate back to North America at the end of June 2015 after spending five years heading up the securities finance team for State Street’s EMEA operations.

Mr. Lawton joins State Street from Barclays, having held a number of senior level roles at the lender dating back to 2009 – these include Head of European Synthetic Delta 1 Trading and most recently, Managing Director; Head of Equity Finance & Delta 1, EMEA.

In addition to Barclays, Mr. Lawton has held various executive level roles at Bank of America, Dresdner Kleinwort, Lehman Brothers, and Price Waterhouse, part of a decorated career spanning two decades.

According to Mr. Maiuri in a recent statement on the appointment, “Alex’s experience will be a great asset as we continue to develop our securities finance business in the face of the changing and challenging regulatory landscape.”

“State Street is committed to developing tailored solutions to meet the specific needs of the securities financing industry and Alex’s appointment is testament to our continued focus on this important market segment,” he added.
