SIX Swiss Exchange’s Turnover Surges 20.6% to CHF 94.5 Billion in Sept

The total trading turnover on SIX Swiss Exchange, Europe's third-largest stock exchange and top post-trade service provider, reached CHF 94.5 billion in September 2022, which is a 20.6% increase from August.

The number of transactions on the exchange shot up 20.7% to a total of 4,860,288 last month.

SIX Swiss Exchange disclosed these figures in its trading key figures for September 2022 published on Monday.

Trading turnover on the exchange between January and September 2022 dropped 2% to CHF 955.7 billion when compared to the same period last year.

In a similar measure, the total number of transactions dropped 0.7% to 47,417,809 compared to the first nine months of 2021.

“The highest turnover on a single trading day was recorded on 16 September, which saw securities worth a total volume of CHF 10.0 billion changing hands. The highest number of trades was recorded on 28 September, with 319,246,” SIX Swiss Exchange explained.

In August, SIX Swiss Exchange recorded a 1.3% turnover gain, reversing a two-month decline in its trading figures by generating CHF 78.3 billion in the month.

Nestle and Novartis’ Dominance

In September, the shares of Swiss multinational food and drink processing conglomerate, Nestle, continued its months-long dominance as the stock with the highest trading turnover.

The turnover of Nestle in the just-concluded month skyrocketed 59% to CHF 9.7 billion, which is a remarkable increase from August’s CHF 6.1 billion.

Furthermore, the Swiss-American multinational pharmaceutical corporation, Novartis AG, continued its months-long top performance as the most traded stock on the SIX Swiss Exchange.

Shares of the pharmaceutical corporation hit 310,270 transactions in September 2022, which is a 38% increase from the 225,307 transactions recorded in August.

Crypto ETPs Performance

Finance Magnates’ analysis shows that the losses in the trading turnover of products with cryptocurrencies as their underlying assets deepened in September.

In the month, cryptocurrency exchange-traded products (ETPs) generated CHF 87.1 million. This is a -3.1% drop from the crypto ETPs that of CHF 89.9 million that was generated in August. Additionally, earlier in August, the turnover collapsed -41% from July’s figures.

“In total, 190 products were traded and 6,539 transactions concluded,” SIX Swiss Exchange added.

Furthermore, although 21Shares Ethereum ETP (AETH), an Ethereum-based ETP, generated the highest crypto ETP turnover in September, the figure of CHF 21 million is a -37% decline in August.

Nonetheless, the AETH recorded the most transactions with 1,205 trades.
