BNY Mellon today announced that it acquired a stake in FastMatch, the new ECN launched by Credit Suisse and FXCM last year, and will allow its forex traders to access this ECN's Liquidity . Banks have been quite active recently becoming more involved in new platforms such as ParFX (former traFXpure) and investing in ancillary businesses like Traiana.

There have been quite a few new ECNs launched in the past 12 months and seems that at least for now there's room for them all as liquidity becomes more segregated.

BNY Mellon has a large fx business in the US however was recently hit with a string of suits for claims of overcharging some of its corporate forex clients.

NEW YORK, February 11, 2013 — BNY Mellon, the global leader in investment management and investment services, today announced that foreign exchange traders in its Global Markets group are now capable of flowing FX orders to the FastMatch® electronic communication network (ECN).

Based on the matching technology underpinning Credit Suisse’s Crossfinder® offering, FastMatch® has been retooled and refined to the needs of global foreign exchange traders. It has been designed to give traders access to large pools of diversified liquidity at unparalleled levels of speed and pricing transparency. As part of its adoption of ECN-based trading capabilities, BNY Mellon has acquired an ownership interest in FastMatch, joining Credit Suisse Group AG and FXCM Inc. as partners in the venture.
