Over the next week we will be presenting a series of videos of the speeches and discussions featured at the London Summit 2015. If you were unfortunate enough to miss the summit, or did attend but missed out on a particular session, this is your chance to catch up.
"The things that are being created today aren't just competing with each other, they're competing with everything that's ever been made in history, which is all accessible to us at the push of a button."
This session is given by Jason Waters, Client Solutions Manager for Facebook, who is spearheading the development of the binary and Forex trading vertical at the social media behemoth. Jason has vast experience working in the ad tech industry in Dublin. He shared insights into the world of mobile at the London Summit in this keynote speech.
Jason recognises the challenges for players in transitioning to mobile, but as he says, "Those who are mobile and mobile first are reaping the benefits." This massive sector of the industry cannot be ignored.
He points out that the largest taxi company and travel agent in the world, worth $50 billion and $24 billion respectively, don't even need to own taxis or property, the physical assets of their trade. This is the strength of technology today.
But how does a company make itself stand out in a marketplace that offers literally millions of apps, and where users spend 75% of their time on only their favourite four?
"The world is mobile."
Jason's speech is packed with enlightening factoids which only show just how important mobile is. Did you know that it took television 67 years to reach 1 billion people, but it has taken the smartphone only 5? Now you do. Jason points out that when 80% of 18-24 year olds wake up, the first thing they do is check their mobile phone!
"For traders, Facebook is the most powerful discovery engine that there has ever been."
Facebook has 1.49 billion users, of which 1.3 billion use mobile. 1 billion are active on Facebook daily. Which is why Jason argues that no platform could be better for aiding entry into this source of revenue and customers.
Jason says that Facebook offers personalisation, essential for standing out. Jason gives some examples of services that have been provided to brokerages - in one case, the client saw a 40% increase in ad effectiveness, as well as a twofold increase in its view rate and overall website conversions.
Jason discusses future trends in video, artificial intelligence, and the Facebook's most major development thus far - internet.org
